It’s since 2013, WHO has decided that echinococcosis should be taken into account among Neglected Tropical Diseases by the department in charge of controlling these diseases.

WHO is assisting countries to develop and implement pilot projects leading to the validation of KS control strategies by 2020. WHO collaboration with veterinary and food safety authorities as well as with other sectors is essential to achieve the long-term results of reducing the disease burden and preserving the food value chain. WHO supports capacity-building through training courses for medical and paramedical personnel, focused on the clinical management of KT in rural areas of affected countries.
