On behalf of the organizers, we are delighted and honored to announce and welcome all participants to the XXVIIIth World Congress on Echinococcosis, to be held in Lima, Peru, from October 29 to 31, 2019. This Congress is organized under the sponsorship of the World Association of Echinococcosis (WAE), the Peruvian Association of Hydatidology (HAP), the National University Mayor of San Marcos and the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Despite the enormous efforts to control and eliminate echinococcosis worldwide, many countries in Latin America, Asia and Africa still report high prevalence and incidence rates of cystic echinococcosis (EC, E. granulosus) in humans and animals. In addition, there are two other important echinococcosis; alveolar echinococcosis (AE, E. multilocularis), a serious disease in several Asian countries, and neotropic echinococcosis (NE, E. vogeli), which affects a considerable region in Latin America.
National control programs have been fighting these pests for decades, with different successes or failures. Recent and recent attempts have been made in other countries and their impact on the elimination of echinococci would be imminent. We hope that the XXVIIIth World Congress on Echinococcosis will be a remarkable scientific event that will attract the interest of all renowned experts and professionals from around the world. This meeting will create an environment conducive to exchanging experiences, research, exceptional discoveries, collaboration and strengthen relationships among all participants.
The Congress is open to physicians, veterinarians, biologists, parasitologists, pharmacologists, infectious disease specialists, surgeons, epidemiologists, public health practitioners, laboratory specialists, economists and anyone interested in echinococcosis. The congress will include scientific sessions, a symposium, a plenary session, oral presentations and a poster session. The official language of the congress is English.
